November approaches, so it is almost time to buckle down and do this year’s NaNoWriMo!
I’m still currently undecided if my work this year will be on a singular novel or a series of short stories.
I intend to blog more about the NaNo experience than some years this time. In prior years when I dropped regular blog updates I tended to stay on focus more and made it further in the challenge.
As with last year, my older two girls have both stated that they want to participate along with me. So I will be getting them setup in the YWP soon.
To everyone out there giving it a go this year, WRITE!
To those undecided, give it a shot you never know what you can do until you try.
Well we are now five days into the month of November. For some of us our word counts are climbing and our works are reaching new heights of literary awesomeness. For others the first few days have been a sisyphiean struggle just to move the word counts along.
Personally, I’ve had a fairly good month so far.

Those of you who have followed me for a while know that I took on the National Novel Writing Month challenge in 2011 (epic fail) and 2012 (near win). Last year with my changing jobs in the beginning of November I thought it was a bad idea to try.
Not so this year. I’m geared up and ready to go!
While I am going for the 50,000 words in the month, I will most likely be working on several projects rather than a single novel. Still 50k of new words on ‘paper’.
This year is going to go great. To add extra cool to it, my eldest daughter is taking part under the auspices of the Young Writer’s Program.
So any of you guys going to give NaNoWriMo a try?
The first of December is here, across the country and around the world thousands of writers breathe a sigh of relief. The 2012 National Novel Writing Month event has finished.
The collective word count for this year is over three and a quarter billion. Yes I said Billion. 3,288,976,325 to be exact. That is a lot of words.
Throughout the month each of us has tried our hardest to reach that goal of 50,000 words of new content. Many are cheering themselves as they look at that purple status bar of a winner. Others are feeling sad they didn’t make it, or focusing on what did come out of the event for them.

Here we are, the Twenty Ninth day of November is now completed.
One day of writing left. One day of complete insanity. As we who have yet to finish the 50,000 words madly dash for the National Novel Writing Month finish line.
Some of us have already crossed the line, in some cases days ago. Shattering the goal and reaching for more. To you I say WAY TO GO!
Some of us are inching ever closer, that goal sitting apparently just out of our reach. To you I say YOU CAN DO IT! GO! GO! GO!
Some of us, find themselves so far behind that 50k is just a dream. I ask you, did you write something most every day? Did you do your best with what the month handed you? Then to you I say KEEP IT UP!
Finally as my 50 hovers in that range where it is just beyond my reach I say to you all. If you have finished or not YOU ARE ALREADY A WINNER! You sat down at the beginning of the month with a goal, it may have been an unreachable goal but you had it.
If here on the last day of the month you are still striving to get your words on the page. You have WON.
Now, to figure out how in the world I’m going to write a “Standard Lowell” today… 🙂
Day 28 is done, the word counts are in.
I had a respectable day. I am way ahead of where I ended last year.
So 2 days of writing left. Miles to go to the 50k.
Am I giving up. NO WAY.
To everyone else sitting where I am, so close yet so far, I have but one thing to say.
And so the Twenty Seventh day of NaNoWriMo came to a close.
I am feeling incredibly happy with my results today. As of the time I am writing this my word count for the month is 34,632, just slightly more that 15k short of the target.
I succeed in nearly reaching 3,500 words for the day come midnight!
While I am uncertain that I can manage the just of 5k per day needed to hit the goal in the next three days I’m going to give it my best shot.
I don’t think I have ever written so many words in a single day before either, certainly not this year and looking at the graph not last year either.
We are in the home stretch folks. Time to dig in an power through!
[UPDATE: Wow, I just took another look at this. I must have been really tired when I wrote it, the grammar is awful and some makes no sense. However in the spirit of NaNo I’ll avoid editing it]
