Languages for Elves and Dwarves
He created them
J. R. R. Tolkien was an incredible writer, responsible for creating works that have inspired generations.
I wrote this haiku in response to Rob’s Genre Haiku challenge for this month.

My parents’ copy of the Hobbit has the cover artwork you show here on the right.
One of the things that really intrigues me is that Tolkien was a linguist, and created the Elvish and Dwarven languages as you said. I’ve been reading about the other terms he used– halfing is based on the Scots term “hauflin”, referring a rustic male teenager who is no longer a boy, but not quite yet a man. Ent is an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “giant”.
Yup, he was big on using things like that as sources for his world.
