September 11th, 2001.
The events of this day are burned in my memory as such events often are for those who live in such times. Pearl Harbor, the Kennedy assassination, the Moon Landing, the Challenger disaster…
I remember sitting at my desk that morning getting down to work. Our day had hardly gotten started when word came that plane had crashed into the World Trade Center.
We quickly pulled up the news and watched as events unfolded: the second plane, the Pentagon…
The horror of the situation only compounded as we watched the South Tower start to collapse.
Flight 93, the North Tower…
Wondering, not knowing, if for some reason my godfather who lives and works in New York City was anywhere near the towers.
The day was a blur…
In the days and weeks that followed, the strangeness of skies clear of contrails… the reactions, many reasonable and unfortunately many not…
Today ten years later we still feel the affects.
The events of that horrible day showed us both the worst and the best of humanity. With any luck humanity will look back and endeavor to reflect in ourselves the best shown that day.
I hope so, for our children and our children’s children sakes.
Time will tell.
