World Book Night 2012, The Day After

Yesterday was World Book Night 2012, if you regularly read my Ramblings, you already know that my daughters and I participated in the event, giving away copies of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game.

We got set up at the local coffee shop near my office, the Village Bean.

By 8am we were all ready to go, books set out. Now we just needed people to arrive to get their morning caffeine fix :)

Two crazy and fun hours later… all 20 copies had found new homes.

If you had the chance to take part, please leave a comment about your thoughts on the event. If you didn’t, please consider helping out with this worthy and fun cause next year.

[UPDATE: 4/27/12] The girls and I also recorded a segment about this for How To Grow Your Geek, the podcast posted there today.

World Book Night Update

As I said a few months ago I am participating in next weeks World Book Night event.

Tonight I attended a get together with a number of other local book givers at our book pickup location, a local independent book store Beaverdale Books. It was a fun time discussing our selected books and our plans for handing the books out.

On an interesting note while there was a good selection of this year’s books chosen by givers, my choice to hand out Orson Scott Card‘s Ender’s Game was the only one with multiple givers (3 of us) so score one for the Science Fiction section ;)

I’m planning on handing out these special editions of Ender’s Game to non habitual readers next Monday at The Village Bean here in Des Moines.
